Voice and image evidence is increasingly important in both the defense and prosecution of illegal events cases. Audio and visual clarification is paramount to a case where the technology is employed.

In our computer forensic examinations, we employ advanced imaging tools that enable us to quickly assess electronic evidence. This initial evaluation helps us determine whether further analysis with specialized forensic software and techniques is necessary.

Key Processes
Creation of Forensic Images:
We generate exact copies
(forensic images) of computer data without altering the original evidence. This ensures the integrity of the data throughout the examination process.

Previewing Evidence:
We can preview files and folders across various media types, including:

  • Local hard drives
  • Network drives
  • Floppy diskettes
  • Zip disks
  • CDs and DVDs

Forensic Imaging:
Forensic images are created for local hard drives and removable media, allowing us to access the contents without risking modification of the original data.

Exporting and Reporting:
We can export files and folders from forensic images and generate hash reports for regular files and disk images, including files within disk images. This provides a detailed account of the evidence.

Important Protocols
Use of Write-Blocking Devices:
When creating a forensic image, we utilize a hardware/software-based write-blocking device. This prevents any changes to the original media when it is connected to our systems.

Data Acquisition Tools:
Our data acquisition tools allow for a swift preview of evidence. If necessary, we create a forensically sound image of the media.

Bit-for-Bit Duplication:
We ensure a bit-for-bit duplicate of the media is made to eliminate any risk of accidental or intentional data manipulation. This includes capturing file slack and unallocated space, which are essential for a thorough forensic examination.

Conclusion
Our forensic examination process is designed to maintain the integrity and accuracy of electronic evidence.
By adhering to strict protocols and using specialized tools, we ensure a comprehensive and reliable forensic analysis.

Electronic information is considered different from paper information because of its intangible form, volume, transience and persistence. Electronic information is usually accompanied by metadata that is not found in paper documents and that can play an important part as evidence
(for example the date and time a document was written could be useful in a copyright case).
