Make a Difference to Children

July 26, 2025

Thank you to everyone who participated in our National Make a Difference to Children Month event.  The atmosphere was filled with joy, laughter, and a profound sense of community.

Our dedicated team of mentors provided children with invaluable experiences through a range of engaging activities, including table games, drone demonstrations, a history session on the Tuskegee Airmen, and music lessons. We were delighted to offer a laptop as a door prize, inspiring continued learning and exploration.

We extend our sincere appreciation to our friends and community members—Elmwood Park Zoo, Greater Philadelphia Chapter Tuskegee Airmen, Inc., Montgomery County-Norristown Public Library, Recycle Read Repeat, Salem Baptist Church of Abington, and WSFS Bank.

Your support was instrumental in creating a significant and positive impact on the lives of children.

Black History With The Second
Great-Grandson of Frederick Douglass

February 13, 2025

In observance of Black History Month, we had the honor of welcoming Kevin Douglass Greene, the second great-grandson of the esteemed abolitionist and orator, Frederick Douglass, to Norristown.

Mr. Douglass Greene engaged with students and faculty at the Eisenhower Science and Technology Leadership Academy, followed by a visit to Blockson Middle School.
These interactions served not only to inspire the students but also to deepen their understanding of the profound legacy of Frederick Douglass.

After these enlightening visits, Kevin Douglass Greene participated in a book signing event for “Narrative of the Life of Frederick Douglass” at The Centre Theater.
This occasion provided attendees with a valuable opportunity to connect with and explore the mission of the Frederick Douglass Family Initiatives.

To enrich the overall experience, the event showcased a stunning array of paintings and sculptures from the Moody Jones Gallery, which enhanced the aesthetic appeal of the evening. The Honorable Garrett D. Page delivered a powerful rendition of the Black National Anthem, setting a meaningful tone for the affair. Additionally, performances by jazz pianist William Morris, Jr. infused the atmosphere with elegance, while the excellent catering provided by Zone’s Catering contributed to an enjoyable culinary journey for all attendees.

We want to thank everyone, including our collaborators, Hands Across Philadelphia and The Centre Theater, for their invaluable support in making this event a meaningful celebration of history and culture.
